This picture makes we want to go build networks!

upload pics to imageshack or from your source, open the box right below the "I" box, paste, either preview or send, that's it....even a caveman can do it geek

These are ALK Universal networks that I built under license. They replace the A-series networks in the Klipsch Heritage line of speakers. They improve the sound over the stock crossovers substantially.

Ok this might be a stupid question, but is that a power supply on the crossover? What would you need that for? Is this for a powered speaker?

Nope, not a stupid question. The Klipsch networks are not only doing crossover of frequency, but they are balancing the output of the components as well.

The original Klipsch networks, A and AA, are mostly just balancing networks. They are designed to closely compliment the components used in the speakers. In other words, the components have a certain roll off of frequencies on their own, and therefore don't need as much electronic help to do so.

But the midrange driver used is much more efficient than the bass driver or tweeter, so it needs attenuation, and that is what you are seeing on the crossover - an Autotransformer that reduces the signal strength to the midrange. This particular one is adjustable by using different combinations (2 at a time) of the wires coming from the autotransformer.

Thanks for the info. Some neat stuff. Looks like you do very nice work. Are you the Nija? I take it you have a Porsche?

The design of that network is by ALK Engineering and I built a bunch of them under license until the owner of ALK became too difficult to work with. Now I'm developing my own networks.

I don't know Nija. My business is Volti Audio

Thank you for the kind words everyone - Hugh and The Ninja.

Here's another network that I built for my Khorns.

    Crossovers VSi4

The idea here is to go ultra simple. Only the bare essentials. Let the drivers roll off on their own where they will, and help them a little where they need it. Let the music flow uninterrupted.

    Crossovers VSi9

    Crossovers VSi12

The sound is interesting. Very raw and live sounding. I still prefer the other networks overall, because of the control that they provide, but there's something really neat about the look and sound of these little guys.

    Crossovers VSi2

The small cap is doing high pass duties for the tweeter, the large cap is doing high pass for the midrange, and there's nothing on the woofer! The Khorn bass horn rolls off pretty hard starting at 350Hz. The BMS driver that I have for my midrange rolls off at about 6500Hz all on its own.

The autotransformer is providing level attenuation for the midrange. I'm using a swamping resistor to provide steady impedance back to the amplifier. It also allows the attenuation of the midrange without the crossover frequency changing.
