Dr. Dave started a new forum after AV123 was down last time. I thought it was a real good idea for helping new people, especially those who are not millionaires, get started with good quality, affordable components. I contributed quite a few speaker reviews in the $100 - $500 category. I was hoping his forum would catch on because there are always new people asking for recommendations for speakers. Usually, new people are looking for affordable speakers and budget components. And, well I thought if I made an effort and posted a variety of popular speakers, Dr. Dave's forum would get some interesting debate going back and forth.... "this v that" and "so and so v so and so", you know how silly people are... maybe "silly" is not the right word... starts with an "S" though.... and the usual fanboy... god, I hate that word... bravado... "my speaker is better'n yours". But he's just not getting a lot of hits, or people are not contributing. When I started out a couple of yars ago to find an affordable great sounding speaker, I really had to do a lot of research... due dilligence we used to say when playing the penny stocks for fun... and if I had found a web site like Dr. Dave's that had a dozen or so reviews and recommendations of really good budget speakers (most of which I'd never heard of), I would have at least hung around long enough to tell him "thank you". We bought a big old farmhouse and I needed to put stereos in some of the rooms and guesstooms especially... and since this has always been my hobby and I am a very critical listener to Classical Music... plus over the years I've built a lot of speakers... Criminey, everybody expects me to be an expert and the speakers in their rooms to be exceptional -- so they can go on and on and brag about them about how much better my little speakers are than the ones they have at home and talk me into giving them to them... which is why I put them in their rooms to listen to in the first place! I bought a pair of XLS-Encores... but before that I can't count the number of times I was ready to buy some other speaker when I found out about yet another one I'd never heard of... all good and I have several different ones in different rooms. Eventually, I learned about the XLS and ended up buying those, and I'm glad I did because I like them. Anyway, that's how I ended up at AV123, just searching for the proverbial "giant killer" small, affordable speaker. But in the process I learned about a lot of different really good speakers. I think of how many people have never heard of AV123... even though they don't have a "giant killer" speaker any more, or ... well, pick any speaker name... where do they learn about these speakers? Not at WalMark, Sears, Best Buy, or most hifi shops. Few people read the audio magainzes and even if they do there are very few affordable speakers ever mentioned, maybe one issue a year recommends a "budget" speaker... and then the price jumps up considerably and keeps right on going through the stratosphere, from cents to no sensibility.

I hope this one catches on. I hope Dr. Dave's catches on. Good luck.

I just want to have a place to relax and discuss audio gear. I'm sure there will be a few comments the other way but my wish is to have a place where hard working Americans, and hard working foreigners can sit down at their computer and enjoy a decent conversation about audio, life, or anything that is on their mind. There is so much negative in this world, this place is a positive!
