Question for Sean, Hugh, Kevin and company,

Given the power/current/wattage requirements of the new Maggie 1.7s might the RA-125 be a good option?

    John,

The Maggie 1.7 is rated at 4Ohms so the RA-125 would be adequate to power them.

    Good morning.

So, this fills the need for "current" too, Hugh?? I'm thinking this amp might just be a great next amp for me - to replace my tube H34 - any takers? I don't recall ever asking this, do you take trade ins? (where's that beating a dead horse emoticon) I sent the specs off to the Magnepan dealer I'm talking to in Milwaukee. Thanks.

    I believe so John.

Sorry, we don't take trade-ins, I wish we could. Smile

Okay, as you know I'm a newbie here . . . what exactly does a DAC do (quit laughing) . . . were I thinking I'd like a computer based system or if I wanted a analog converter of higher sophistication and quality than whateve my source might have, I'd want a separate DAC to run the signal into an amp . . . is that close?

DAC = Digital to Analog Converter.

It converts digital signal from a transport to analog signal to send it to either a pre-amp or an integrated.

Okay, that I understand. Guess my question is more about application. What are the uses for a DAC unit . . . why would I want one for example. Would this be a better discussion in a separate thread - didn't mean to take this classified in this direction. Am learning forum protocal . . . or trying Smile

Don't forget, the RA-125 outputs 125 wpc at 8 ohms. It will give you nearly 250 into that 4 ohm load. It's really potent for its size. I would think it nearly ideal for those speakers unless you want to go to giant monoblocks ($$$) or maybe a big tube amp.

Thanks. Not sure I want to go big tube . . . as a life-long Wisconsinite I'm probably better equipped for log rolling than tube rolling Smile
